When you get to be a certain age, some people think your time for adventure is over.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m having more fun now than ever, thanks to the Tallahassee Senior Center and people like you who make their programs and services possible.

Will you join me in making a tax-deductible gift to the Tallahassee Senior Center Foundation before the end of the year to keep the support going?

I walked into the Senior Center soon after I retired, just to see what they were about. I am so thankful I did! I’ve found a place that makes me feel young and alive. My latest adventure is kayaking with the Lifelong Outdoor Pursuits program. Senior Center programs keep my mind alert, my body healthy, and my social life active. This is what your 70s look like when you’re plugged into the Senior Center!

We are grateful for the City of Tallahassee’s support of the facility and management of the Center the past 40 years.  And more recently Leon County’s funding for 15 years to serve the unincorporated community.  But what you may not know is that the Senior Center Foundation was established to make the services and programs possible.  It is through your donations, along with community support, that makes the Senior Center thrive with activities.

Your generous support fills the Senior Center with a multitude of activities and programs that bring people together.  Seniors are counting on us to keep the services and programs they enjoy going, but really, it’s about so much more than that.

You see, for many adults, the Senior Center is THE place they experience friendship and stay engaged in the community. We know that many seniors, particularly those without family or friends nearby, are at risk for depression and isolation.

As long as there’s a Senior Center, there’s a place for people to connect.

The Senior Center is part of what makes our community great, and your support makes this possible. The Senior Center reminds us that it’s never too late to learn or try something new.  Will you help?

I met a woman recently who told me that the Senior Center “saved” her. She had retired and was at a loss for what to do next. She was lonely, and one day, wandered into the center, just like I did.

She discovered her community at the Senior Center, and that’s a story many of us share. I joined the Senior Center Foundation more than 10 years ago. I believe in it so much that I’m still a volunteer and board member and will be for as long as I possibly can.

Please join me in supporting these services and programs that truly change lives by making a tax-deductible donation before the end of the year.

P.S. Many seniors experience isolation and loneliness, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Any amount you can give will help. For $250, for example, you can help underwrite one month of weekly friends group meetings at Senior Services locations throughout Leon County. Thank you!
