Set in the Philippines during WWII, three-year-old Rochelle Steinlauf, along with her siblings and father, are torn from their peaceful happy life and separated from their mother and wife who had traveled to another island to shop for Christmas. Immediately following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese air squadrons flew to the Philippines and bombed American military installations located there in preparation for the landing of ground forces. Not knowing what had happened to their mother for over two years Rochelle, her five-year-old sister, and six-month-old baby brother with their father were thrust into the chaos of war, at first hiding out in the mountains and eventually becoming prisoners of the Japanese. Forced into captivity, they experienced unbelievable conditions and made to endure hardships in various prisons until liberated, eventually reuniting with their mother and wife. Rochelle’s story is one of hope and forgiveness and the ability to endure the most deplorable circumstances …. Life is what you make of it!
