  • Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator
     September 17, 2024
     1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

“The Great Dictator” is recognized as one of the great historically significant classic films of the 20th century. Released in 1940, Charlie Chaplin plays two characters – a Jewish barber suffering from amnesia after WWI, and Henkel, the antisemitic dictator of Tomania. Chaplin brilliantly and satirically plays these opposite poles. A Life magazine review on 9/2/1940 read, “with unparalleled genius for mimicry and satire, the world’s most beloved figure pays his respects to the world’s most hated.” Watch the film in the comfortable theater of Red Hills Village Retirement Resort. Linda Davey will review the historical context of the film for your greater appreciation of it.
