     July 8, 2021
     1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Thu. July 8 1:30 – 3 p.m. Volcanic eruptions are some of Earth’s most dramatic and violent agents of change. Not only can powerful explosive eruptions drastically alter land and water for tens of kilometers around a volcano, but tiny liquid droplets of sulfuric acid erupted into the stratosphere can temporarily alter our planet’s climate. Eruptions often force people living near volcanoes to abandon their land and homes, sometimes forever. Lifelong Learning coordinator and geologist, Maureen Haberfeld, will discuss the science behind volcanic activity. The class will cover volcanic materials, types of volcanoes, different volcanic hazards, volcanic areas in the United States, and some of the world’s most well-known volcanic eruptions. Hybrid class in person at TSC and on Zoom. Participants can choose how they want to attend. $5 fee.
