Bring life to your portraits with vibrant watercolor. Learn about backgrounds that enhance, but don’t overwhelm. Explore shading, shadows, and sculpting human skin with watercolor. Capture the sparkle in the eye… and maybe the soul of your subject with improved painting technique! $40- 4 weeks, intermediate to advance level

Course will cover:
Review of basics of the portrait: Facial Structure—Flesh and Bone. Differences in Faces by Age. Measuring with your eyes and your ruler. Light sources. Reflections. Skin Tones and the colors within. Importance of the neck and shoulders in a portrait. Painting wet into wet and why. When you make a mistake, what to do.

Supplies: 300 lb cold press watercolor paper. A large sheet can be cut into four smaller sections.
Watercolor brushes: (sable is great, but certainly not necessary.) Squirrel is fine. One-inch nicely pointed round brush; one-inch square brush; series of smaller round brushes; one very fine-pointed brush.
Suggested colors: Ivory or Lamp black; burnt umber; raw umber; burnt sienna; raw sienna; quinacridone burnt orange; gambouge; Naples yellow; geranium lake; alizarin crimson; maroon perylene; ultramarine blue; Prussian blue; Phthalo green; titanium white. You need not have all of these colors, but browns, oranges, yellows, crimsons, and blues are all part of what becomes realistic skin tones.
Watercolor mixing pan. Large-ish container for water. Your favorite rags. Spray bottle if you choose. Hair-dryer if you choose. Mr. Clean Erasers.
Bring your pencil and soft eraser for preliminary work.
