Nathan Brown — author, songwriter, publisher, and award-winning poet. Oklahoma’s Poet Laureate and professor of English/Journalism at University of Oklahoma for over 20 years, he now tours the world performing readings, concerts, workshops,  and speaking on creativity, poetry, and songwriting. Seize this opportunity to catch him here at TSC! Nathan has been a professional songwriter and musician for decades in and around Oklahoma City, Nashville, and Austin. He has performed in venues such as the Bluebird in Nashville, the Cactus Cafe in Austin, the Mucky Duck in Houston, and the Blue Door in Oklahoma City. . . as well as overseas in Israel and Russia. His most recent album, The Streets of San Miguel, was recorded at the renowned Blue Rock Studios in Wimberley, just outside of Austin.

This workshop explores approaches and techniques for beginning to record our Life Stories. These ideas and strategies are useful for all writers, poets, and songwriters—novice and experienced. Featured topics will be:

  • Ways to organize your work, and many stories, to avoid feeling overwhelmed

  • Storytelling and poetry frameworks and techniques that help hold the attention of readers

  • Strategies for developing a daily writing practice, and why that matters
