  • 009 Palaces of the Tsars in St. Petersburg, Russia
     September 9, 2021
     2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, now known as the Hermitage, houses one of the top ten art collections in the world.  Assembled under the Tsars and subsequent governments, the collection is so broad that only a brief survey is possible. Tallahassee Senior Center artist and world traveler Tom Friedman will do a general survey of its collections spanning the ages. Some of the most wonderful Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Modern works by van Gogh, Renoir, Picasso and others are represented in the Hermitage collections.  We’ll also visit the Catherine Palace, built by Empress Elizabeth daughter of Catherine the Great, formerly called Tsarskoye Selo known for its famous Amber Room and the Peterhof Palace, constructed as the Russian Versailles by Peter the Great, with its fabulous rooms and extraordinary gardens.

This is a hybrid class offered in person and on Zoom. Participants will be sent an email the day before the class with the Zoom link. If they plan to attend in person, they need to reply to that email to let us know that they will be attending in person.
