Born and raised in Tallahassee, Nancy attended both FAMU High and Florida A&M University. Equipped with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, she took her passion for education and launched a rewarding career as a teacher. Her emphasis on literacy skills as the key to a lifetime of successful learning has empowered countless people. A dedicated and busy full-time teacher, Nancy always set aside time to spend with her two beautiful children.

Nancy has applied her passion for education as an active volunteer in the Tallahassee community. Some of her past philanthropic work includes tutoring with Bethel Christian Academy and working with a local English as a Second Language program, where she helped students of all ages. Today, as a member of the graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Nancy tutors high school students.

Since the age of 60, Nancy serves as Sunday School Superintendent at Gethsemane Baptist Church and member of the Tallahassee Senior Center Advisory Council. As council member, Nancy has volunteered for many years with the Capital City Games, greeting athletes with her warm smile.

Nancy continues to practice her steadfast love of learning daily. Over the last 20 years, she has learned to play the piano and to crochet. She contributes to social articles in Capitol Outlook. She has taken up photography, nurturing this hobby during her extensive travels to Paris, Italy, Spain, South Africa, and regions of the Mediterranean. Her travels, assorted hobbies, and volunteer duties have kept her active, while developing new knowledge about the world and a genuine understanding of the importance of helping others.

In addition to volunteer work, new activities, and travel, Nancy makes time each week for Advanced Senior Fitness, Southside Senior Outreach Wellness Circles, and Life Skills for Aging Well classes at Jake Gaither Community Center.
