Class Description
The instructor talks about the art supplies used, technique and painting theory and starts demonstrating with step-by-step instruction for you to apply on an 8”x10” or 11”x14” canvas; concentrating with more detail to finish one painting in the two-day workshop OR for those of you with more experience, finish two pieces of art in the two days (one each day). In class you’ll paint your pet, friend’s pet or even holiday-related animal (your choice) in your own personal style. You will start with the basic shapes and then add highlights, mid-tones and shadows and finally the details.

Class includes demonstration, discussion and hands-on. The final product could be used as a decoration or a perfect gift for a friend. This course is for any skill level (even if you’ve never painted before), although some knowledge of drawing or painting can be helpful it is not necessary–new beginners will be able to handle this.

Art Supplies Students Bring to Class
• 8”x10” or 11”x14” stretched canvas (one or two: optional)
• Acrylic paints (Liquitex Basics or Artist’s Loft—Academic Level) in a five- or six-tube set of basic colors plus a tube of burnt sienna (brown), 2 oz. size or larger OR separate tubes of red, yellow, blue, black, white and brown).
• Three brushes: 1 small round, 1 small flat or bright (approx. ¼” wide), and 1 medium sized flat or bright (approx. ½” wide). For example, Royal & Langnickel, Cotman or Artist’s Loft. Synthetic is good (there should be a  section for “acrylic” brushes), and short handles are good for working on smaller canvases. Bring extra brushes if you’d like such as a fan brush or a smaller round brush.
• Bring a few styrofoam plates to use as palettes (paper will work).
• Plastic cup for water.
• Pencil and paper (copy paper OK) for taking notes and sketching ideas.
• Several reference photos of animals and/or pets that you want to portray (can be on your phone).
