Sold Out Clay Hand Building for the Absolute Beginner

Workshop Description:
A class for the absolute beginner, there is no clay experience needed for this class.  The six-week period will take you on a journey from wet raw clay through all the different

stages of processing the clay to the final glazed pieces.  The fundamental techniques of hand building (slabs, pinch pots, and coils) will be discussed and demonstrated, with all class participants learning and creating with all three methods.  Finishing techniques using underglazes and glazes will be explained and experienced, and each completed piece will be processed through a final kiln firing by the end of the six weeks. Whether you want to learn basic clay building for something to do, to make items for yourself, family, or friends, or to take pottery building to another level, this beginner class with provide each participant with a true clay adventure.

Materials: Clay and Clay tools
For Cone 06 clay you can order clay to be delivered the first day of class. Email the Art Program Coordinator at heathhilary.mcrae@talgov.com once you register so she can let the supplier know – it is $25 for 1 bag of clay. Please order at least one week before the workshop begins or there is no guarantee you will have clay for the first day.

You need to order your own tool kits they can be purchased online or in-store at Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Amazon. They do not carry the correct clay for our kilns – that needs to be ordered through TSC or you can order your clay through Jesse directly via Tally Clay Supply and pick up from him at Tally Clay Supply if you do not want it delivered to TSC.
